I decided to place little poll on my site. Right now I want to ask you if you want to read in the news section which ads are now presented in czech magazines (like in czech version of absolutads.com). Short information containing name of the current ad and the name + issue of magazine where that ad appeared. What do you think? Let me know please. The poll can be found in right menu.
At the same time I’m glad that I can let you know that beta version of my new Absolut ads gallery (made in PHP and MySQL) will be accessible in just few weeks. Gallery will be finaly in new design (no more black and white ;o) Quality scans, updating each week and new features. Hope you’ll like it
Have you ever wondered about how an Absolut ad differs from its design? You may compare here the design and the final version of the Absolut Bangkok ad. The photo for the ad was taken in October 1999 at the Floating Market in Bangkok, Thailand for BDDP@TBWA, FRANCE
To give you a better idea, the item dated 23 July now includes links to pictures showing the covers of the nominated albums. Frankly speaking, in some cases (most of them?) I can hardly imagine the incorporation of the Absolut bottle. See for yourself!
The Czech representative in the Absolut Album collection will be selected from these nominations: LUCIE (LUCIE), DAN BÁRTA (ILLUSTRATOSPHERE), TATA BOJS (FUTURETRO), MONKEY BUSINESS (SAVE THE ROBOTS), RICHARD MÜLLER (01), NAÈEVA (FONTANELA), HUDBA PRAHA (NASHLEDANOU), PLASTIC PEOPLE OF THE UNIVERSE (EGON BONDY’S HAPPY HEARTS CLUB BANNED), HYPNOTIX (KUMAH), ECSTASY OF ST. THERESA (4B4), OHM SQUARE (SCION). More info at www.strihni-si-vyhru.cz/absolut. :o)
THE CZECH REPUBLIC is "absolutely" the first European country (and the world´ s second after the United States) to launch the ABSOLUT ALBUM project. In its advertising campaigns, The Absolut Company has bet on associating its product with works of art. The father of pop-art, Andy Warhol, once painted an Absolut Vodka bottle and the bottle has since been treated in very original ways by designers, photographers, and fashion designers. The Absolut Company, inspired by the covers of legendary vinyl albums of major musicians, has selected among the icons of the music scene the most famous ones incorporating in them the unmistakable bottle. Thus emerged the ABSOLUT ALBUM collection of advertising visuals, comprising ABSOLUT BOWIE (David Bowie and his album Aladdin Sane), ABSOLUT UNDERGROUND (Warhol´s "banana" on the first album of The Velvet Underground), ABSOLUT JOHN & YOKO (John Lennon and Yoko Ono and their "naked" photo), ABSOLUT PRIEST (British Steel album of Judas Priest), ABSOLUT MILES (Miles Davis´ LP Bitches Brew), and most recently ABSOLUT PISTOLS (The Sex Pistols´ album Never Mind The Bollocks). The Czech Absolut Album is the first national version of the project in Europe. This is no mere coincindence. Absolut Vodka has already collaborated with Czech visual artists earlier. By selecting the Czech Republic it has now also recognised the quality of Czech musicians and the appeal of their album covers. Which of the Czech albums will eventually become the Czech representative in the ABSOLUT ALBUM collection, will be decided in early summer. The nominations from among the albums of leading Czech musicians have been proposed by music writers Honza Dìdek, Jarda Hudec, Josef Chuchma, Jana Kománková, Petr Korál, Vojtìch Lindaur, Josef Rauvolf and Josef Sedloò. People could also tip the winner at selected bars and clubs across the Czech Republic and at www.radio1.cz in the course of May. The first Czech Absolut Album will be presented in September and the launch will include a concert of the selected musician or group. The album will be reissued in a limited edition with the new cover and will certainly become a sought-after collector´s item. Source:www.ireport.cz
On April 11 of this year, the "Absolut Classic Album Covers" collection was enlarged with a contribution from the punk group Sex Pistols. The Absolut ads collection which has been inspired by the covers of classic vinyl albums now includes Absolut Pistols, the cover of Never Mind The Bollocks (Here´s The Sex Pistols) (1977). You may compare the ad with the original cover of 1977. Absolut Pistols, as well as the whole series of Absolut Album Covers, was first published in the US music journal Rolling Stone. I am now impatiently waiting to see which Czech album will be selected for the "Absolut Classic Album Covers" collection by the TBWA agency for the autumn advertising campaign to be launched in the Czech Republic.
Sometimes I am literally stunned by the imagination of the artists behind the Absolut ads. Have you ever thought about what an outdoor ad for Absolut Vodka could look like? Look at the picture and you will not believe your eyes. A perfectly furnished apartment like the one on the Absolut bilboard is certainly something rarely to be seen.
It may have looked like this site would never be updated and everything unfortunately pointed in that direction. However, in the course of last year I did my best to prevent this from happening. I obtained the ABSOLUTADS.COM address, the site has been entirely redesigned and we started working on a new editing system to make the addition of new ads as simple and fast as possible. Work is in full swing and you will soon be able to find here at last the recipes for delicious cocktails, information about in which Czech magazines you may find which Absolut ad, and you will also be able to browse through hundreds of old as well as the latest ads, learning interesting facts about the creation of some of them and, last but not least, about the history of the Absolut advertising campaign. Quick search based on different criteria will naturally also be enabled. Be prepared!
