April 16, 2005 April 16, 2005 - NEW ABSOLUT POSTCARD SET - THE SEVEN DEADLY SINS
Promocard of Italy has announced that between April 2005 and January 2006 they will be publishing and distributing a new series of Absolut postcards entitled ABSOLUT SEVEN. If the series follows the previous magazine advertising campaign there will be eight new postcards available to collectors.
The SEVEN Series is of course in reference to “mankind’s seven deadly sins”, also known as the “Capital Sins”. The original list of “8 offences and wicked human passions” was introduced by the Greek theologian Evagrius of Pontus around the middle of the 4th century. In the late 6th century, Pope Gregory the Great revised the list to seven vices, which are commonly referred to today as “The Seven Deadly Sins”.
This particular Absolut advertising theme was introduced in 2001, and was, at the time, also known as the “Absolut Sin Collection“. As mentioned earlier there were eight images in total - the introductory ad labeled Absolut Seven, followed by Absolut Gluttony, Absolut Greed, Absolut Sloth, Absolut Envy, Absolut Wrath, Absolut Pride, and Absolut Lust. They all appeared in magazine advertisements, and the original images can be seen here in the Absolut Ads Gallery on this website.
There was also a set of “Absolut Seven” postcards printed and distributed by Avantcard of Australia, circa 2001. The eight cards were all attached to each other with perforated edges, and remains a very nice Absolut postcard collectable.
The order in which Promocard will release these new postcards is not known, nor are the release dates. I can only recommend that collectors keep a keen eye out for their appearance over the coming 9 months. At least the first card called Absolut Seven was released in April (number PC 5328).
